Biography

Biography

Dr. Louati obtained his PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His MPhil degree is in Renewable Energy (in Mechanical Engineering Department) from the National School of Engineering of Sfax-Tunisia (ENIS) where he also obtained his B.Eng. degree in Electro-mechanics. Currently, Dr. Louati is a Research Assistant Professor at the civil and environmental engineering department (HKUST) working on a theme-based project entitled “smart urban water supply system” (Smart UWSS) (http://suwss-dev.ust.hk/) and other funded projects. Being the Research Coordinator for two tasks in the Smart UWSS project, he is managing a team of several Research Assistants and co-supervising three post-graduate students. Dr. Louati has ample experience in analytical analysis, modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experimental work.

Since September 2016, Dr. Louati is the Editorial Coordinator of the Journal of Hydraulic Research (JHR) and he is currently an Assistant Editor in this journal. Dr. Louati is a member of IAHR and IAHR-HK-Chapter. Dr. Louati publishes his papers in top journals in his field. His papers and work are well received in his community. Dr. Louati has actively participated in defining the research ideas and in the writing of five successfully granted research proposals and contributed to their research investigation. Dr. Louati was awarded scholarships for four years as well as the SENG PhD Fellowship Awards for three years, and he received the SENG Overseas Research Award. He participated in the John F. Kennedy Student Paper Competition 2013. Dr. Louati has co-founded and co-organized the special sessions on “Transients in pipes” at the 37th and 38th IAHR World congress. Now, this special session has officially become permanent for all future IAHR congress under his co-leadership. He also co-organized the Mini-Symposium on “Transients and Geysers in Urban Systems” at 8th International Symposium on Environmental Hydraulics, University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, June 4-7, 2018. Dr. Louati has also served and still serving as co-organizing chair of several other symposiums, workshops and conferences. His communication skills are excellent. He speaks fluently three languages (Arabic, French and English) and he enjoys teaching as well as working/collaborating with colleagues.
